Episode 244 – Hunt for the Wilderpeople (1:27:31)

We discuss Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” with our old friend, Patrick MacFarlane of Liberty Weekly and the Libertarian Institute.

Ricky is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle in the wild New Zealand bush. A misadventure in the wilderness leads to life-changing discoveries for the troubled orphan teen from the city and his belligerent Uncle Hec. A road movie and coming-of-age tale, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is consistently clever and even moving according to Roger Ebert’s website.

This is a suggestion by my long-lost co-host Robert, so I am sure he will have plenty to say on this one.

Episode 200 – The Godfather, Part II (1:19:30)

Just when we thought we were out, we get pulled back in to continue our discussion on The Godfather with the great Keith Knight of Don’t Tread on Anyone.

Our previous episode on the Godfather only began to scratch the surface of all the many facets and intricacies going on in this epic film series. This time we are going to talk about some of the international scenes such as in Italy and in Cuba, and also go wherever else our guest wants to go.

The Godfather is an American film series that consists of three crime films directed by Francis Ford Coppola inspired by the 1969 novel of the same name by Italian American author Mario Puzo.

We’ll end with our summary and review and ratings for the movies, which we didn’t have time for on the previous episode.

We’re also proud to announce that our YouTube video for this episode now features actual video footage of the show, check it out here and be sure to hit that subscribe button!

Episode 197 – The Godfather (1:11:40)

We discuss The Godfather Trilogy, a story of succession and a metaphor for capitalism where the distinction between mafia and government becomes blurred. We have the great Keith Knight of Don’t’ Tread on Anyone join us for a review we can’t refuse.

The Godfather is an American film series that consists of three crime films directed by Francis Ford Coppola inspired by the 1969 novel of the same name by Italian American author Mario Puzo.

This is part one of the conversation and we will be having Keith on again in a few weeks to continue it.

My Cousin Vinny with Liberty Weekly – Extended Cut

Our My Cousin Vinny episode with Patrick MacFarlane of the Liberty Weekly Podcast; but now with more lawyering content.

Pat went deep into the details of the procedures of courts and other minutiae that might be more of interest to those into such things rather than our core audience.

So, for those of you intrigued by the legal process and procedures, here is the uncut, unfiltered version of the episode.

Episode 97 – Liar Liar (1:07:28)

Patrick MacFarlane of Liberty Weekly recently became a lawyer and joins us to discuss one of his favorite movies, Liar Liar. Jim Carrey is pretty much a commie these days, but still had a pretty good run of comedy films in the 90’s. This film did not age well, but the premise hinges on how courts often side with the woman at the expense of the man in family court, which gives us plenty to talk about.

The truth shall set you free – or get you into a lot of trouble! Comic genius Jim Carrey pulls out all the laughs in Liar Liar as the fast-talking attorney and habitual liar who, forced by his son’s magical birthday wish, must tell the truth for the next 24 hours. He soon discovers that his biggest asset – his mouth – has suddenly become his biggest liability in this heartwarming and “outrageously funny” (New York Post) smash hit!

Netflix’s “Wild, Wild Country” – A Voluntaryist Analysis – Part II

In this summer special of the Liberty Weekly Podcast, I team up with Robert and Daniel from the Actual Anarchy Podcast for an in-depth discussion and analysis of “Wild, Wild Country.”

“Wild, Wild Country” is a hit Netflix docuseries which tells the story of Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh–a man whose followers attempted to create a commune in the high deserts of Oregon. In doing so, they came at odds with the local townspeople . . . and eventually the US Government.

In episode II of our analysis, I am replaced by guest host Trey Weaver of the Subversion Webcast.  The boys talk about the internal workings of the Bhagwan community and how the feud between the Rashneeshies and the townspeople kicks off.

There is NO Right to Free Speech Ep. 81

In this short podcast episode, I plug my upcoming appearances, and explain how free speech and “the right to privacy” don’t exist unless the right in question is supported by general property rights. Either way, the government is illegitimate.

SCOTUS Whiffs on Masterpiece Cake Ruling Ep. 80

The Supreme Court handed down a very dissatisfying ruling in the Masterpiece case on Monday, holding in a 7-2 opinion that: “[t]he Colorado Civil Rights Commission’s actions in assessing a cakeshop owner’s reasons for declining to make a cake for a same-sex couple’s wedding celebration violated the free exercise clause.” This ruling, which was narrow in scope, failed to decide the fundamental issue in the case, which had more to do with compelled speech than free exercise. Of course, us libertarians understand that the real fundamental issue here is property rights, and neither compelled speech nor free exercise.
