Episode 35 – Rogue One (1:16:05)

The boys from Liberty Weekly join us to talk about Rogue One a Star Wars story. Patrick from that site wrote a great article on this movie earlier this year, so it was a great fit to have the two of them join us for this one.

Here is the Google Description:

Former scientist Galen Erso lives on a farm with his wife and young daughter, Jyn. His peaceful existence comes crashing down when the evil Orson Krennic takes him away from his beloved family. Many years later, Galen becomes the Empire’s lead engineer for the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, the Death Star. Knowing that her father holds the key to its destruction, Jyn joins forces with a spy and other resistance fighters to steal the space station’s plans for the Rebel Alliance.

Not a whole lot of additional notes for this one, but here is the article by Patrick from Liberty Weekly:

Star Wars–Rogue One: Why I Wouldn’t Join the Rebel Alliance

And here is where you can catch their podcasts and articles over at their site:

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective.

We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.

We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.

The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.

We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.

  1. Good timing – I just watched this movie a couple of days ago. I must say that when I first saw it, I knew nothing about the plot save that it was a stand-alone film. So, for much of the movie I kept wondering how it was that the empire was already building another Death Star. I guess it was when the CGI Peter Cushing made his appearance that I had my “Aha” moment.
I don’t think anyone raised the issue of why the Death Star didn’t directly target the Archive, but instead hit some area off shore. Maybe their targeting sensors need aligning!
And, if you are familiar with it, doesn’t this seem like a science fiction version of “The Guns of Navarone” (which starred a young Harrison Ford)?
