We discuss Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” with our old friend, Patrick MacFarlane of Liberty Weekly and the Libertarian Institute.

Ricky is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle in the wild New Zealand bush. A misadventure in the wilderness leads to life-changing discoveries for the troubled orphan teen from the city and his belligerent Uncle Hec. A road movie and coming-of-age tale, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is consistently clever and even moving according to Roger Ebert’s website.

This is a suggestion by my long-lost co-host Robert, so I am sure he will have plenty to say on this one.

Thank you for joining us on this episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast!

The Actual Anarchy Podcast is all about Maximum Freedom.

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. If it’s voluntary, we’re cool with it. If it’s not, then it violated the Non-Aggression Principle and Property Rights – the core tenants of Libertarian Theory – and hence – human freedom.

We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.

We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.

The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.

We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics).

For our show where we talk about movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective, we often watch them on our various devices via Netflix, Amazon Prime or on VUDU (which lets you redeem UV content as well). The VUDU one is nice because once it is in there, you know it will still be there a few months later:

This week Jared Wall of Breaking Liberty joins us to talk about the Dave Chappelle film, “Half Baked”.

Half Baked is one of the best stoner comedies that you can see and it is simply a fun comedy with a good cast guaranteed to make you laugh. While critically panned and a box office flop, it has since become a cult classic and helped establish Dave Chappelle’s career and his show.

Due to a scheduling mishap with our co-host, Robert does not make an appearance on this episode. He thought the recording session was the next day so he had an enjoyable mountain biking excursion during this episode.

We’re also proud to announce that our YouTube video for this episode now features actual video footage of the show, check it out here, and be sure to hit that subscribe button!

Half Baked

When a member of their crew gets arrested for killing a New York City police horse by feeding it junk food, three slackin’ stoners are forced to get off their butts and raise bail by selling pot stolen from a pharmaceutical lab. We did “Jaws” last week and we stick with the Spielberg theme with a review of “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” and we will be joined by a professor of history, the great, Prof CJ of the Dangerous History Podcast.

In 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Germans do so that they may use it as a weapon of war.

The legacy of Indiana Jones began 40 years ago with the release of this film and so it is a great time to discuss it.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Epic tale in which an intrepid archaeologist tries to beat a band of Nazis to a unique religious relic which is central to their plans for world domination. Battling against a snake phobia and a vengeful ex-girlfriend, Indiana Jones is in constant peril, making hair’s-breadth escapes at every turn in this celebration of the innocent adventure movies of an earlier era.

Our Guest:

CJ has been teaching college history since 2006, but he has been a smartass, iconoclast, and a cynical questioner and critic of authority since he was a kid. Naturally, these attitudes have influenced his take on history.

CJ likes his teaching job and does his utmost to incorporate his critiques of the established narrative into the classes he teaches, but he still finds formal academia somewhat limiting at times, so he decided to start a podcast as an outlet for his most radical revisionist rants.

What is the Dangerous History Podcast?

The goal of the Dangerous History Podcast is to help you learn the past so that you can better understand the present and prepare for the future.

The Dangerous History Podcast takes CJ’s countless hours spent as a Professional History Dork and boils all the most interesting and/or important stuff he has learned into podcast episodes, combining education with entertainment with the ultimate goal of empowerment.

This is the history the Establishment would rather you not know.
Check it out at: http://dangeroushistorypodcast.com/ or http://profcj.org/

We had CJ on for another Spielberg flick last year, “Saving Private Ryan” which was episode 184 of Actual Anarchy and episode 127 of the Last Nighters.

This week we get into the spirit and do a movie that we believe will be appropriate for the aftermath of the election – no matter the victor – as we do “The Purge” with Olof the AnarchoViking.

The Purge is an American media franchise centered on a series of dystopian action horror films distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, mainly created by James DeMonaco. The films present a seemingly normal, crime free America in the near-future.

James, Mary (Lena Headey) and their two children struggle to survive the night while trying not to turn into monsters like the ones they are striving to avoid.

Our Guest:

Our guest, Olof the Anarcho Viking, moved from Sweden to Italy to New York to California to Florida.  He also spent some time in Japan and brings some of that experience to the discussion of this movie.

He is well-read on Hans-Hermann Hoppe and has written several articles clarifying the misperceptions regarding the man and his work:

So To Speak – The Misunderstood and Misrepresented Thought of Hans-Hermann Hoppe

As we mentioned, Olof has also been a guest on David Gornoski’s “A Neighbor’s Choice” where he has discussed Sweden and their p a n d e m i c response among other topics and appearances:

A full collection of Olof’s articles can be found at:

https://www.actualanarchy.com/category/author/anarcho-viking/

Olof was our guest for “The Outlaw King” where we brought some of that triple-H heat to the discussion. You can see his prior appearance here:

Episode 107 – Outlaw King (1:18:29)

He was to be our guest for “The Truman Show” but other commitments came up, and he was filled-in for by the venerable Mike C.

Episode 123 – The Truman Show (1:16:47)

And then he was able to return once more for “Spirited Away”:

Episode 148 – Spirited Away (1:13:59)

And most recently, Olof was on for the class-warfare on a train movie “Snowpiercer”:

ABOUT

Actual Anarchy, an anarchy unlike what the average idiot thinks it would be. Anarchy means no rulers, not no rules. The non-aggression principle and a respect of property rights are what makes it go.

We host a podcast where we take pop culture movies and showcase moments or scenes or themes throughout that are literally actual examples of anarchy.

Any place, around the world, there are always examples of Actual Anarchy all about you. Sometimes you just have to sit back and take a look. It’s easy once they’ve been pointed out a few times.

Actual Anarchy is real-world examples of anarchy in action.

Google Description for the film

The Patriot

A widowed farmer, with a brave but brutal military past, decides not to join up when the British arrive in 1776. However, when his son enlists and is later captured by the enemy, the former soldier must abandon his new-found pacifist principles in order to rescue his oldest child, and forms a regiment of Carolina patriots, whose guerrilla tactics prove pivotal to the US war effort.

Our Guest:

Snobby Bobby of the Not For Everyone Podcast is a first-time guest, but we expect him to join us again in the future for more episodes. You can find his podcast on SoundCloud and wherever podcasts are available:

His podcast is described thusly:

Trigger Warning – Explicit Complaining – ‘Not For Everyone’ is a podcast featuring two cynical man-children that primarily explore the deep cuts of schlock horror/sci-fi/fantasy films made in the 70s, 80s, and 90s as well as their flawed friendship. These fellas also spend the first 30 – 40 minutes of each episode just BSing about random adjacent topics such comics, heavy metal, bigfoot, death row meals and half-assed paranormal investigation adventures.

Host Heroes: John Carpenter, Fred Dekker. Stan Winston, Kurt Russell, Bill Paxton, Glenn Danzig and Dracula.

Show Notes:

Conceived in Liberty, authored by Murray Rothbard, is a 5-volume narrative concerning the history of the United States from the pre-colonial period through the American Revolution.

There’s never been a more urgent time to remember the revolutionary and even libertarian roots of the American founding, and there’s no better guide to what this means in the narrative of the Colonial period than Murray Rothbard. Rothbard’s ambition was to shed new light on Colonial history and show that the struggle for human liberty was the heart and soul of this land from its discovery through the culminating event of the American Revolution. This volume is a tour de force, enough to establish Rothbard as one of the great American historians. This single book (volumes 1–4) covers the discovery of the Americas and the colonies in the 17th century, the period of “salutary neglect” in the first half of the 18th century, the advance to revolution, from 1760–1775 and the political, military, and ideological history of the revolution and after.

The fifth volume of Conceived in Liberty highlights the most important battle of the American project, one that continues to this day: the conflict between those who want to centralize power and those who choose to stand to defend the American heritage of liberty. This book features a foreword by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, a preface by Dr. Thomas E. Woods, and an introduction by Dr. Patrick Newman. The fifth volume completes Murray’s great work, lost for decades, yet as relevant as the day he finished it.

And here is Hans-Hermann Hoppe’s book that we mentioned, “Democracy the God That Failed”:

This 15-minute podcast by Robert Wenzel explains the mentality of the 99% driven to fear by the MSM and politicians:

https://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2020/06/dread-risk-fear-and-its-role-in-current.html

Here is the video that Bobby shared with me highlighting how the movie goes out of its way in making the British to be the most dastardly villains possible:

Here is another review of the movie:

https://ultimateactionmovies.com/mel-gibson-the-patriot/

Next week, we’re going to get classy, San Diego, with our good friend Pete Quinones AKA Mance Rayder of the Free Man Beyond the Wall Podcast as we a review of the Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman classic, “Casablanca” before it gets deplatformed.

Google Description for the film

Mrs. Doubtfire

Troubled that he has little access to his children, divorced Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) hatches an elaborate plan. With help from his creative brother Frank (Harvey Fierstein), he dresses as an older British woman and convinces his ex-wife, Miranda (Sally Field), to hire him as a nanny. “Mrs. Doubtfire” wins over the children and helps Daniel become a better parent — but when both Daniel and his nanny persona must meet different parties at the same restaurant, his secrets may be exposed.

Prior appearance where Dannnnnn was my co-host in Robert’s stead:

Episode 109 – Ratatouille (1:16:49)

And, here is our really old version of the show where Robert and I had previously discussed the Ratatouille movie, just in case you want the old man’s perspective:

Episode 34 – Rat-a-shooty (1:02:42)

Show Notes:

16 Sure Facts About Mrs. Doubtfire

The HBO Documentary about Robin’s rise and struggles that finally overcame him, “Come Inside My Mind”:

Instant Family episode:

Episode 180 – Instant Family (1:25:11)

Stefan Molyneux covering some of the backstory and possible contributions to Robin’s struggles that led him to take his own life:

After a lifetime of comedic achievement, the suspected suicide of Robin Williams shocked the millions of people for whom he had become a household name. What brought about the tragic end of such an accomplished man? What is the truth about Robin Williams?

As the details of the Robin Williams tragedy continue to unfold, shocking new information has come to light and the mainstream media has as usual failed to ask some incredibly relevant and important questions.

Why isn’t anybody talking about possible SSRI usage? Why isn’t the association between SSRI usage and Parkinson’s disease being discussed?

Speaking of hot flashes, join us next week, we bring the heat with Mike C. for another Michael Mann film, “Heat”.

This is what a Police Story looks like. We get a view of Hong Kong in the 80’s back when the police had quaint levels of authority. Sharply contrast that with the jackboot tactics of late that have stifled protest and dissent. We invite Shaine Scalph of HAPA Supremacy / What’s HAPAning to discuss the Jackie Chan action-classic, “Police Story”.

We are taking preventative measures during this time of crisis. Both Robert and I, and our guest, are utilizing virtual meeting technology and working from home during this unprecedented time. Robert and I are both in FEMA region X, and Shaine will be broadcasting from FEMA region VI.

Google Description for the film

Police Story

An honest Hong Kong cop protecting a Triad boss’s girlfriend-turned-informer, finds himself framed for the murder of a dirty cop and going on the run. The movie mixes slapstick with wild stunts and features some painful outtakes during the final credits.

A B-movie/war movie that is so over the top that it is actually an anti-war movie. Back when the left was dependably against war.

Mike C. joins us again to do his part as we discuss one of his favorite movies.

We also discuss how they acquired rights to Heinlein novel for the name and some characters, but is pretty much the opposite of the sentiment of the novel and was already written prior to said acquisition. In fact, the director couldn’t even get through the novel.

This may be one of the great troll jobs in film history.

One person who had early access to this episode gave this glowing remark:

Awesome show this week! I was just going to listen to a few minutes now and wait until Monday, but here I am having finished it. I thought it was funny that somebody referred to it as having a Saturday morning cartoony feel, and that is what I did when I woke up this morning.
