Episode 64 – I Saw the Devil (52:47)

In what may become a routine feature, we do a foreign film from South Korea that has a bit of a cult following in the US, I Saw the Devil. This one is timely as the Olympics are currently taking place there and has plenty on offer.

It’s a story of revenge where the aggrieved party takes justice into their own hands, and fights fire with fire, becoming the monster he is hunting.

Kyung-chul (Choi Min-sik) is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state. Her fiance Soo-hyun (Lee Byung-hun), a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.

We expect to have Patrick MacFarlane of Liberty Weekly on to discuss this film and any other rabbit-trails we go down during the inaugural episode of our new hangout-style/conversation show to be called “Boys Night Out” where all guests and listeners must identify as a man for the duration of the show.

Episode 40 – Equilibrium (1:28:37)

TRIGGER WARNING: MUH FEELZ

Our friends from Libertopia join us again to discuss the dystopian nightmare film, Equilibrium. A movie about a totalitarian-state hell bent on stopping war and crime by stamping out human emotion (and calling war, crime and violence a different name). This is a really fun episode.

In a fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system. Emotion is outlawed and human behavior is controlled by a drug, Prozium, that hinders emotion. A government official is in charge of going around and eliminating potential threats to the regime. When the official forgets to take his dose of Prozium, a whole new world is opened up to him and he takes on the establishment that he’s supposed to be working for.

Here is the Google Description:

In a futuristic world, a regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Clerick John Preston (Christian Bale) is a top-ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist these rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the one capable of overthrowing it.

The 80’s Save Society

By The Professional Asshole

In the last 20 years society in the developed world has come down with an illness called feminism. This illness has basically taken to bucking 5,000 years of received wisdom—that the sexes are drastically different.

They are different psychologically, genetically, physically, athletically, economically, academically, and in every other conceivable category. One is not less morally or personally significant, only different.

This received wisdom is now called “sexism.”

I believe we, as libertarians, have a duty to society. A duty to recognize freedom of association and differing cultures, much in contradiction to the SJW, totalitarian left.

Before modern feminism much culture existed that is still available to us to persue and enjoy celebrating the world as it is, and not some genderless zhe/zhim/zher utopia where all distinctions are “racism.”

One of the most effective ways to do this is to have people watch old comedies. They are irreverent and demonstrative of reality (by making fun of it).

Take for example Police Academy: The opening line recognizes some people are too fat, dumb, or female to be cops (a point made repeatedly).

The fat and dumb seem to be standard now. Ideally, law enforcement should be fit enough to need limited force.

Episode 37 – 3:10 to Yuma (1:14:53)

We race to the train station on 3:10 to Yuma, the Russell Crowe and Christian Bale morality western about outlaws and bandits. Special guest, Douglas Gregory of HQATL (https://hqatl.com/) and writer at the Actual Anarchy site joins us for a spirited discussion.

The Google Description:

Outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) terrorizes 1800s Arizona, especially the Southern Railroad, until he is finally captured. Wade must be brought to trial, so Dan Evans (Christian Bale), the owner of a drought-stricken ranch, volunteers to escort him to the train. Along the trail, a grudging respect forms between the men, but danger looms at every turn, and the criminal’s men are in pursuit.

Who’s right, who’s wrong, who knows?

Episode 36 – Sharknado (1:23:32)

Drake Lundstrom from www.GuidetoLibertarianism.com joins us to celebrate Shark Week, the upcoming Sharknado 5, and mourn the passing of John Heard (the old drunk guy in Sharknado 1, he was also the dad in Home Alone). Drake claims this is the 3rd most libertarian movie OF ALL TIME.  We’ll see about that.

Here is the Google description:

A monstrous storm devastates Los Angeles, leaving the streets flooded and infested with sharks.

Yep….that’s it.  You didn’t miss much.
