It's Just the Next Virus Du Jour.  Tamper Your Fear with Reason

Picture

The below article went viral and is attributed to a doctor named Abdu Sharkway.  He does a great job of conceptualizing the newest Virus-of-the-Day.  Quit buying out all the toilet paper when what you really need is to wash your damn hands…

I’m a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I’ve been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria…there is little I haven’t been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they ” probably don’t have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know…” and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games…that could be kyboshed too. Can you even
imagine?

I’m scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession.

But mostly, I’m scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested.

Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and “fight for yourself above all else” attitude could prove disastrous.

I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let’s meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing.

Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts.
Our children will thank us for it.

15 Reasons to Vote Libertarian

Picture

Tom Woods Liberty Classroom

For 15 jurisdictions, today is your first chance to cast a vote in the 2020 presidential election. Of course, it’s not quite that easy if you are not supporting one of the two old parties. For Libertarians in these 14 states and American Samoa, the rules are not all the same. For some, participating in the primary will disqualify them from participating in their Libertarian convention process (heads up Texas, DO NOT VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES if you want to vote in your Libertarian convention). For other states, the convention process is done, and you can sit back today. (We’re talking about you Arkansas, Alabama, and Tennessee). Other states still have conventions coming up (so make sure you know the details, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Utah, Vermont and Virginia). Finally, some states do include Libertarians in the primaries and you can get out and vote today (hopefully you already knew this, California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Oklahoma).
Whether you are voting today, waiting for your state convention, or still trying to decide what to do, we’re here to help. In honor of the 15 different groups of voters trying to figure out what to do today, here are…
Picture

1. The Libertarian Party is the only anti-war party.
You cannot count on Democrats to end the wars — they have been every bit to blame as the Republicans. While in the midst of trying to impeach President Trump, a bi-partisan Congress approved a military budget of over $700 billion. Neither old party has any intention to ease up or end our military interactions. If you are ready for an America at Peace, it’s time to vote Libertarian.

2. The Libertarian Party is the only party committed to eliminating the national debt.
Republicans have long been considered the anti-debt party, but that can only be laughed at now. After eight years of calling out President Obama’s reckless spending and increased deficits, they have been silent and/or outright supportive of Trump’s explosive spending that has taken our national debt from $19 trillion to $23 trillion in three years. If an annual deficit of $1 trillion dollars is unacceptable to you, your best move is to vote Libertarian.

3. The only way to stop more government overreach is to vote for the Libertarian Party.
Increased taxation for “free” college is promised by the Democrats; tariffs (which are taxes) and bailouts are executed by Republicans. Both old parties are inching or running toward single-payer healthcare, more gun control and granting the executive branch more and more power. The only choice for those who care about personal and economic liberty, separate from the boot of big government, is the Libertarian party.

4. The only way to send a message to the ruling old parties is to vote for the Libertarian candidate.
Once again, the only alternative party that will be on every ballot in the 2020 general election is the Libertarian Party. A vote for Trump sends the message that nothing needs to change. A vote for any of the Democratic candidates likely to get the nomination is a message that nothing they do needs to change either. We currently have more people choosing not to vote for anyone than to pick one of the options the Rs or Ds serve up, and that does nothing to wake up these power-hungry politicians. If your hope is to see better candidates coming from any party, the only way to send that message is to scare those who rule over us by voting Libertarian.

5. Libertarian policies benefit everyone, and they get adopted the more voters show support for such things.
It seems hard to believe that the Democratic party was officially still against same-sex marriage less than a decade ago. The Libertarian Party has supported equal rights (and removing the government from marriage) since its founding in 1971. Both parties are still waffling on if people who chose to use cannabis for medical or recreational purposes should go to prison. Many states have changed their laws, while federally some lawmakers are looking to add vaping as a crime. The Libertarian party has supported individual liberty (and no victim, no crime) since its founding in 1971. The liberty movement does affect the public view of issues and eventually leads to better policies. If you want to see more Libertarian policies adopted by old party representatives, you show them that by voting Libertarian.

6. You don’t want to have to spend the next four years explaining why the dumpster fire you supported was not as bad as the dumpster fire someone else supported.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is still attaching your name to something evil. It sucks. Don’t do it. Vote Libertarian.

7. Because you “Support the Troops”.
Democrats and Republicans both like to act like they are moral patriots who value nothing more than the brave men and women who serve their county. Truth is, they are lying. If they really cared about the troops, they would never flippantly start a new war, they wouldn’t refuse to do their job to vote on military action, and they would certainly spend much more time talking about the 22 veterans a day who commit suicide. War is a failure on every level, and we fail our service men and women once they return home. Do you support the troops, really? So does the Libertarian Party.

8. Consistent Principles only exist in the Libertarian Party.
We already mentioned the Democrats’ evolution on rights for gay people only when it became politically beneficial to them. Republicans say they support your Second Amendment rights, until Trump says we need to limit that a bit. Both old parties jump around on which personal decisions they will allow and which they will criminalize. In their histories, the ruling parties have changed their principles drastically. The Libertarian Party platform has held consistent values of individual liberty since it was first written in 1971. Do you want to know that the party you support is going to hold to the values you supported them for? Your party is the Libertarian Party.

9. The Libertarian Party supports ending harmful election laws and opening up the ballot for other parties too.
Perhaps you feel that another party best represents your views, but they do not have ballot access. Republicans and Democrats write the very laws that keep alternative parties off the ballot or using all of their resources to get on the ballot. Libertarians believe the duopoly has to be defeated if we will ever see real and meaningful changes in this country. A vote for the Libertarian candidate is a vote for allowing more candidates and more parties of future ballots, and an end to the ruling parties ability to force you to choose between two terrible candidates.

10. The Libertarian Party is the most welcoming to immigrants and refugees.
If you believe children should never, ever be separated from their parents and held in government custody for crossing a political border, you can be sure that the Libertarian Party agrees with you. Democrats and Republicans will continue to argue over miniscule changes – the Libertarian Party will end this insane and dysfunction humanitarian crisis by legalizing the free movement of peaceful people.

11. Because you do not want to live in a {insert religion here} theocracy.
Libertarians believe that everyone should be able to hold faith and religion as important or irrelevant to their life as each chooses and that the government should never propose policies or laws based on the support or opposition of any religion.

12. To get money out of politics.
It’s funny how often you hear Democrats talk about getting money out of politics, while they promise to pay for college, healthcare, retirement, childcare, and on and on. That is every bit “money in politics” as corporations and lobbyists writing huge checks. Libertarians want to return the executive branch to the limits our Founders intended — that means removing the authority to make such false promises, either to special interest groups or the general public.

13. You support Free Speech — for everyone.
Both old parties will talk about their commitment to the First Amendment, but in practice, both have proven willingness to limit free speech that they do not appreciate or agree with. Libertarians believe that if you don’t support free speech for everyone then you don’t support free speech.

14. Reject Nationalism and Socialism with one vote.
There are two broken ideologies threatening liberty in our nation today, and they are coming from both major parties. Reject the inhumanities we know come from these authoritarian philosophies, and support liberty instead.

15. Libertarians do not seek power – they seek a world set free.
Republicans and Democrats continue to fight over which one best knows how you should live your life. Libertarians know that they best thing for individual humans is to be free to live their life without the approval of any political party.

Can you think of anymore? No matter which one of these reasons rings the truest for you, remember that when you go to vote. Even if you are not voting today, you can still cast a vote for liberty, fiscal responsibility, human rights, and integrity by supporting the party of principle. We are proud and honored to be the voice for freedom in America today.

What is the Logic Behind Allowing Homeowners to Protest the Increases in their Home's Taxable Value?

Picture

What is the logic surrounding the idea that you can “protest your taxable property value”?  Every year my home’s taxable value goes up. A lot.  Every year I spend hours, sometimes with paid help, to reduce it back down as much as I can.

Even with the reduction it still goes UP.

Let’s think about what is going on here.  I live in Bexar County, Texas.

Either Bexar County has the authority to tax us on our property, or they don’t. If they do, then they should tell me how much I owe them and demand I pay it. If I don’t pay this amount, then throw me in a cage. That’s how taxes works.

It says something about your authority if you tell people to stay until 7 pm at work every day, but they always get to protest their departure back to 430 pm everyday.

Having your populace go and spend time and resources to protest and reduce that taxable amount is evidence that you’re either A) not good at estimating taxable value (your only job by the way) or B) you’re wildly guessing, blanket increasing by area and playing the numbers hoping that most people wont protest.

The amount of unproductive time spent ‘protesting’ is also asinine and wasteful. Entire industries of “Let is help you protest your taxes” are popping up. Why?  This isn’t productive and it prevents us from spending our resources for their highest and best use.

Additionally, our public services are also needlessly stressed (courts, clerks, and even the Constables) during this ‘Protest’ thing that our State government has created out of thin air.  Is this their highest and best use?  How much are we paying them to service this charade?

Looking at the human level, for those with the luxury of ‘time’ to come protest, sure, we may get a lower taxable value. But when the taxing authority looks at the data of how many protest year-to-year, anybody with an MBA knows that they would just start inflating values expecting a certain percentage of people to ‘protest’.

For those who are literally working 3 jobs and keeping their families above water, sorry!  Sounds like you’ll pay the entirety of our assessed increase in taxable value.  That’s quite the regressive tax system which inordinately hurts the poor.  Was this the main goal of the Protest process or just an unintended consequence?

Finally, the mental gymnastics needed for Mark Vojvodich, the Constable, literally the guy who will come and rip me from my family and home if I don’t pay these taxes, to be running classes on reducing my homes taxable value is beyond me.

Don’t get me wrong, I like that I can reduce the taxable value of my home with some effort and time. But logically, isn’t getting that reduction akin to the prisoner painting his shackles gold and feeling better about his situation?

Any help here?

"Quit Trashing Obama's Accomplishments"  A Look At Confirmation Bias

Picture

Tom Woods Liberty Classroom

So I’ve come across this list.  It intrigued me.  Not because it was comprehensive by any means.
No, actually a quick glance will show you that some of the circumstantial points are really just there as filler because it confirms the bias of those already predisposed to agree with it politically.  Some of these are the equivalent of the media claiming President Trump mocked a disabled reporter when, as we know, getting more than surface deep into that story shows that it’s not intellectually honest (but people from that side eat it up, just like people from this side read this list approvingly).

No, the reason I’m intrigued is because I’ve lived through this list.  I see it’s errors and fallacious conclusions.  But other parts of this list are intriguing because President Trump was just impeached over a phone call where he used the undue influence of law “to better himself politically”.

Regardless if you agree with that italicized text (for the purpose of this post, I don’t care), it is interesting to see the media’s treatment of President Barack Obama’s actions.

What questions go through your head when you read this list?  I had many.  Do you think this new impeachment standard will apply to Presidents going forward?  Do you think this is the “Deep State” at work?  Is this just partisan divisiveness in list form?  Do you think this is just Trump Derangement Syndrome in effect?  Do you think the list is just Republican Talking Points baloney?  Why isn’t there a #26?  (You can say Yes to more than one of those questions).

NEVER FORGET KILLDOZER: Tread on Those Who Tread on You. A Warning to VA Legislators

Sit down kids and let me tell you a tale, about a reasonable man driven to do unreasonable things.

With news of Virginia legislators seeking to further impose on the Second Amendment Rights of it’s citizens, we are further reminded of the tale of Marvin Heemeyer.

Marvin Heemeyer was a man who owned a muffler shop in Granby Colorado. The city council ordained to approve the construction of a concrete factory in the lot across from Marvin’s shop. In the process this blocked the only access road to the muffler shop. Marvin petitioned to stop the construction to no avail. Petitioned to construct a new access road, and even bought the heavy machinery to do so himself. Denied.

The concrete factory went up in disregard to the ramifications on Marvin’s business. To add insult to injury, the factory construction disconnected the muffler shop from the city sewage lines. An indifferent city government then chose to fine Marvin for this.

His business and livelihood were in ruin. Rather than lie down and die, Marvin chose to fight back. Over the course of a year and a half Marvin secretly outfitted the bulldozer he bought to save his business with three foot thick steel and concrete armor, camera systems guarded with bulletproof glass.

On June 4th 2004 Marvin Heemeyer lowered the armored shell over top of himself, entombing himself inside the Killdozer to make his last stand.

He burst fourth from the walls of his muffler shop and straight into the concrete factory that ruined his business. Over the course of the next several hours Marvin drove his Killdozer through 13 buildings owned by those officials that had wronged him, including the city council building itself.

Swat teams swarmed the dozer, but it proved immune to small arms fire and even explosives. Another piece of heavy machinery was even brought out to fight the Killdozer, but it too fell to the dozers righteous fury.

In the end, Marvin’s Killdozer became trapped in one of the buildings it was built to destroy. Marvin chose to take his life, the only life he took that day.

Today we celebrate Killdozer day and Marvin Heemeyer, the last great American folk hero. A man driven to the brink who chose to fight back against an indifferent system.

From notes left behind after his passing:
“I was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things.”

When injustice becomes the law, resistance becomes duty

Second Amendment Sanctuary Cities Are a Warning to Virginia Legislators

“Sic Semper Tyrannis”

Those words are stamped on the state seal of Virginia. Above those words lies a fallen king, his crown removed from his head and resting in the dirt just to stage left. Above him with a foot on the chest of the dead king, spear in hand, stands a patriot.

The phrase is Latin and translates to “Thus always to tyrants.” It is enshrined in the very fabric of Virginia to bring down tyrants. Oath breakers. Those who would try to lord over other men.

The Virginian government is playing a dangerous game.

So far, more than 100 counties and municipalities have come out and declared their territory to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary. Mark Herring (D), the Attorney General of Virginia, has issued an AG’s opinion that those ordinances and resolutions have no “legal” effect. Mr. Herring, I submit that they were never meant to have legal effect. They are an announcement of purpose. Thus always to tyrants.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has stated his intention to use the newly elected state government, in which Democrats have control for the first time since 1996, to pass magazine capacity limits, red flag laws, “assault” weapon bans, and a one-handgun-a-month law. Governor Northam, the people you serve are delivering you a warning. Thus always to tyrants.

Representative Gerry Connolly (D, VA) has this to say about forcing law enforcement officers to comply with enforcement of the coming laws, “I would hope they either resign in good conscience, because they cannot uphold the law which they are sworn to uphold, or they’re prosecuted for failure to fulfill their oath. The law is the law. If that becomes the law, you don’t have a choice, not if you’re a sworn officer of the law.” Sheriff Scott Jenkins of Culpepper County has pledged to deputize thousands of citizens to circumvent the laws. Listen to what law enforcement is saying. They are telling you they will stand with the people. Thus always to tyrants.

Representative Donald McEachin threatened to cut off funding to counties who refuse to enforce these laws when he said, “They certainly risk funding, because if the sheriff’s department is not going to enforce the law, they’re going to lose money. The counties’ attorneys offices are not going to have the money to prosecute because their prosecutions are going to go down.” In response more than 75 counties have passed Second Amendment Sanctuary ordinances. Thus always to tyrants.

Rep. McEachin further threatened, “I’m not the governor, but the governor may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law. That’s his call, because I don’t know how serious these counties are and how severe the violations of law will be. But that’s obviously an option he has.” In response Tazwell County passed an Order of Militia. Thousands of police, veterans, and citizens have emailed Law Enforcement Today, who is leading the charge on reporting about this, that they will join the militia to defend the constitution. Thus always to tyrants.

Virginian politicians, tyranny has been attempted before here. Our people, the quiet minority is rising up all around you. Stand down, and save us all from the horrors of what will come if you continue on your path.

I understand that you are trying to curb violence, but the violence around us is a heart problem, not a gun problem. You cannot solve it by taking guns. Or trying to and getting a lot of people on both sides killed.

But if you must, then remember the words of Thomas Jefferson, “What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon, and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

President Trump is impeached! Low information voters rejoice! A deep state and media victory!

You’ve heard the story. A Presidential administration is misused, power misused, and even the threat of withholding the taxpayer’s foreign aid in an effort to get what they want.

Another time it specifically went to a foreign power and requested information on his political opponent for the upcoming election.

Once he threatened to withhold aid to get a family member out of hot water.

And that was just the Obama Administration!

If Trump is the new threshold for impeachment, we should then retroactively impeach Bush and Obama (Clinton impeached himself).

I look forward to future presidents who will get impeached with such lack of evidence, leaning only on hearsay.

What’s that? It won’t happen?

Probably not. You see. Trump is hated. More hated than any other president. Why? He’s an outsider. Impeachment has been the goal since he was sworn in.

And that’s the problem.

Impeachment is a process, not a conclusion. The inquiry is a fact-finding mission. It is a way of gathering information and delivering it that information the public.
Having said that, we knew what the House’s intended conclusion was and we know how it would play out, solely along partisan lines.

Pardon me as I speak for a taxpayer for a second. If my tax dollars are going to be wasted in foreign countries that provide no value to my safety and security and IF they are going to be withheld from that country for something… I’d rather it be to expose corruption. I’d rather it show how billions of past tax dollars were also used, not for the taxpayer’s gain, but for the politician’s gain.

The media has been beating the Orange Man Bad drums for years. Unelected bureaucrats within powerful intelligence agencies have conspired. US citizens probably have a good case to bring a class action lawsuit against the media as we no longer receive ‘news’ but instead blatant lies told eloquently.

Also, there was never Russia collusion. It was just building a narrative. The only Russian crime that was actually articulated was the DNC server hack. And those servers still haven’t been evaluated or investigated by FBI, NSA, or law enforcement…

Read books that are evidenced and lack opinion and spin. Like this one.

Looks like Trump will end up as the only President ever to be impeached and then re-elected in a landslide. I never voted for the guy and still won’t. But I’ll laugh when he does.

History will laugh at us. Most Americans believe the bullshit they’re told. We literally just had Democrats impeach a sitting President for trying to expose crime and corruption as they were running the candidate (Biden) who committed the actual crime and corruption.

When the next Democratic President is elected (or establishment republican), you’ll see they aren’t held to the same standard. Sad.

Hoplite Armor Condemns Police Using Civilians For Cover. Creates promo code "ZEROBOOTSLICKED" for 20% off

Picture

Tom Woods Liberty Classroom

Following a public outcry after Miramar Florida Police Officers killed 4 in a deadly shootout, many are seeking answers as to why the decision to shoot hundreds of rounds during rush hour traffic was chosen.

The Founder and CEO of Hoplite Armor was one of those that questioned the “Protect and Serve” mantra of the police force as the entire tragedy unfolded on live TV.

After he experienced the predictable Thin Blue Line backlash and threats of boycotting his product, he wrote the following.

My name is Lyman Bishop. I’m the Founder and CEO of Hoplite Armor, as well as the engineer responsible for the design and development of all our custom armor solutions. I’m also the man responsible for posting various things online that have recently offended a lot of police officers.

First let me say I am not anti police as many would have you believe, but rather I put the the American people first in every circumstance. I believe in the United States Constitution and as such I recognize that it is We the People who are, or should be, in full control of this nation. If We the People take issue with our government or law enforcement, it is our right, even our sacred duty, to speak out boldly and without concern for the consequences brought on by tyrants.

Over the last few days I have been slandered, lied about, conspired against and even threatened with physical harm, by police officers, for speaking out against the events in Florida where police opened fire on 2 criminals in stand still traffic using civilians as human shields, resulting in the Deaths of 2 innocent people. UPS driver Frank Ordonez and Family Man Richard Cutshaw.

The idea that such a thing could happen on US soil is almost beyond belief, but what’s worse is the position of many of those in law enforcement who show no remorse and target those of us who speak out.

Whenever the people stand up against police misconduct we are told to mind our own business, to stay in our lane or that we are Monday Morning Quarterbacks. We are told that unless we have done the job ourselves we have no right to speak out. This is heresy! We the People have every right to speak up against anything that takes place in this country, or for that matter, anything on the planet. Make no mistake, this event will prove to be the defining moment where people take sides. Youre either a bootlicking, redcoat or a free citizen of the United States.

We the People are the single most powerful and influential group of people in human history. We are better educated, and better armed than any group of people that has ever existed and the world would be wise not to stand in our way. That includes our so called authorities here at home.

For too long we have sat idly by and allowed our nation to be picked apart by vultures. Now is the time to stand up and be counted. For years I have felt called by God to run for Governor of Montana but I had to wait for the right time. That time has finally come and I would encourage all of you who are like minded to do the same in your states. What office you seek is unimportant. Only that you get involved and take back whatever power you can. Its time we take back our country and our rightful place in the world.

My position is simple, the rights of the people shall not be infringed. If I am elected we will have constitutional carry for every law abiding citizen on day one. I will also ban the National Firearms Act. The very thought that our rights should be held hostage, subject to bureaucratic paperwork and fees is an abomination to our traditions and our culture of freedom and individual liberties.

Where we go from here is not up to me. I will leave it to you, the People, to decide our fate, but I can promise you one thing. There are NO other candidates, in Montana or anywhere else, that are willing to draw a line in the sand and put themselves in between you and tyranny like I will.

God bless America

Lyman Bishop
