Second Amendment Sanctuary Cities Are a Warning to Virginia Legislators

“Sic Semper Tyrannis”

Those words are stamped on the state seal of Virginia. Above those words lies a fallen king, his crown removed from his head and resting in the dirt just to stage left. Above him with a foot on the chest of the dead king, spear in hand, stands a patriot.

The phrase is Latin and translates to “Thus always to tyrants.” It is enshrined in the very fabric of Virginia to bring down tyrants. Oath breakers. Those who would try to lord over other men.

The Virginian government is playing a dangerous game.

So far, more than 100 counties and municipalities have come out and declared their territory to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary. Mark Herring (D), the Attorney General of Virginia, has issued an AG’s opinion that those ordinances and resolutions have no “legal” effect. Mr. Herring, I submit that they were never meant to have legal effect. They are an announcement of purpose. Thus always to tyrants.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has stated his intention to use the newly elected state government, in which Democrats have control for the first time since 1996, to pass magazine capacity limits, red flag laws, “assault” weapon bans, and a one-handgun-a-month law. Governor Northam, the people you serve are delivering you a warning. Thus always to tyrants.

Representative Gerry Connolly (D, VA) has this to say about forcing law enforcement officers to comply with enforcement of the coming laws, “I would hope they either resign in good conscience, because they cannot uphold the law which they are sworn to uphold, or they’re prosecuted for failure to fulfill their oath. The law is the law. If that becomes the law, you don’t have a choice, not if you’re a sworn officer of the law.” Sheriff Scott Jenkins of Culpepper County has pledged to deputize thousands of citizens to circumvent the laws. Listen to what law enforcement is saying. They are telling you they will stand with the people. Thus always to tyrants.

Representative Donald McEachin threatened to cut off funding to counties who refuse to enforce these laws when he said, “They certainly risk funding, because if the sheriff’s department is not going to enforce the law, they’re going to lose money. The counties’ attorneys offices are not going to have the money to prosecute because their prosecutions are going to go down.” In response more than 75 counties have passed Second Amendment Sanctuary ordinances. Thus always to tyrants.

Rep. McEachin further threatened, “I’m not the governor, but the governor may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law. That’s his call, because I don’t know how serious these counties are and how severe the violations of law will be. But that’s obviously an option he has.” In response Tazwell County passed an Order of Militia. Thousands of police, veterans, and citizens have emailed Law Enforcement Today, who is leading the charge on reporting about this, that they will join the militia to defend the constitution. Thus always to tyrants.

Virginian politicians, tyranny has been attempted before here. Our people, the quiet minority is rising up all around you. Stand down, and save us all from the horrors of what will come if you continue on your path.

I understand that you are trying to curb violence, but the violence around us is a heart problem, not a gun problem. You cannot solve it by taking guns. Or trying to and getting a lot of people on both sides killed.

But if you must, then remember the words of Thomas Jefferson, “What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon, and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
