Sure, you may have heard of the Deep State, but what about the Creep State? Just like that shadowy organization that conspiracy theorists wager is pulling all the puppet strings of politicians in the halls of government, the Creep State is pulling all the strings of the civilian population. And one way they’re doing it is through monitoring, tracking, indoctrinating and social media manipulation. Yeah. Creeeeepy.
In what’s hard not to view as the stalky behavior of an obsessed lover, Facebook in more recent years has amped up the creep factor through utilizing artificially intelligent algorithms and human monitoring in order to track your likes, serve up suggestions, and even find weird ways to suggest friends. Almost as if they’re peeking through the blinds of your house, finding out who you’re talking to, digging through your trash to see what you buy – and maybe even listening in on your conversations. You can bet that if you’ve used Facebook and Google regularly, they both know an alarming amount about you. And even if you don’t, they still might know a lot about you based on their stalking of your friends and family members who do use it. Meanwhile, other social media giants like Twitter and Youtube rule like third-world despots, employing armies of thought crime advocates to squash and censor anything they don’t like.
The situation would be pretty grim if it weren’t for free market competition and innovative, freedom loving intellectuals who are finding other ways to protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Following are six social media alternatives that might help protect you from the social media Creep State.
1. GoodGopher, an alternative media-friendly search engine at https://www.goodgopher.com/ pledges to be 100% uncensored, with zero spam and free inboxes. Some of the independent news websites included in GoodGopher are LewRockwell.com, TenthAmendmentCenter.com, Infowars.com and Breitbart.com.
2. Unlike Google, DuckDuckGo at https://duckduckgo.com/ is a search engine that doesn’t track you, and emphasizes protecting searchers’ privacy. Furthermore, DuckDuckGo doesn’t profile it’s users, or keep track of search history.
3. Gab, a Twitter-style network at https://gab.ai/ is a social network that “champions free speech, individual liberty, and the free flow of information online. All are welcome”
4. Seen.life is a social media site at https://seen.life/ that claims to respect privacy and the freedom to share opinions without fear of censorship. The service also features live chat, free internet calling, and a social currency called “Unity”. Additionally, Seen.life states that they “don’t sell your personal information and we don’t let search engines data mine your posts if you want to make that choice. Once you delete something from Seen.life, it’s gone from the site, we won’t retain it.”
5. Tutanota Email at https://tutanota.com/ says that it’s “the world’s first secure mail service with automatic encryption – engineered in Germany. Open source & forever free. Protect your privacy now.”
6. Youtube Alternatives: Check out Dailymotion (http://www.dailymotion.com/us) and Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/). However, at this time we’re not sure about how much either of these censor or track user experiences. If anyone knows of better alternatives, please let us know in the comments section!
